THE JOURNEY BEGINS...
It was November 1st, 2001. I was sitting in the hospital holding my first born for the very first time. A son. I recall all the emotions of what it meant to me to have a son of my very own. My father, who was still alive at the time, had told me the stories of how excited he was to have a boy. I sort of got it, but couldn't fully comprehend it until now. "I'm a father. I have a son. What the heck do I know about raising a son!?!" A combination of love and raw, naked fear crept into my spirit. It was at that moment I knew I really didn't know what it meant to be a Biblical model of a father. The kind of father that I was called to be as I held this little gift of the Lord.
Most guys will understand that we are wired to have all the answers, and if we don't, we get pretty good at faking it until we "figure it out" along the way. I didn't want to be the Indiana Jones father and ,"Make it up as I go." I knew I wanted to be intentional. Thus began my journey of reading a lot of great books on fathering, and being mentored by dads who were highly successful in Biblically raising their own children. Praise God, He knew how little I knew about fathering, but in His grace He sent me books and Godly examples to help me along in my journey to becoming the kind of father He was calling me to be.
I DO NOT have all the answers. Nor am I professing to be a world class fathering guru. What I am claiming is if you have that deep desire in your heart to become the kind of father God is calling you to be, then come along with me on my journey. I am opening up my life with my sons and sharing with you what God has given to me. I also invite you to comment and share your life with others as well. Life has taught me that we men need each other to complete this journey, and complete it well.
